Technique is the striking conversion of a former printworks and gin distillery into a new art-led creative hub in the heart of Clerkenwell. The project will create a new gallery space at street level alongside retail and office space for the creative industries.
The building’s lobby is conceived as an art installation in itself, serving as a multi-functional space for performance and events for the building’s occupants and the wider creative community. Significantly, the extension will be built wholly out of cross-laminated timber, which will release at least 50% less carbon than if concrete had been used.
The project started on site in October 2019 and when complete in 2021 will offer 74,000 sqft of modern workspace and retail over six storeys, as well as 5,000 sqft of affordable office space dedicated to small and medium-scale enterprises.
