23-28 Charterhouse Square was a comprehensive refurbishment of a 1950’s building that took just over 2 years from inception to completion. The building and island site is located on the border of Islington & The City and lies within the Charterhouse Square conservation area, immediately adjacent to the Grade I Charterhouse complex and public square. Originally built as a hat factory, Charterhouse was built in 2 phases between 1956-1962. The refurbishment of the facade was a key aspect of the design and helped reposition the building. Several key moves were made to improve the quality of the façade whilst retaining as much of the existing as possible. The completed project transforms the original into a vibrant office building that both enhances the public amenity and makes a positive contribution to the conservation area and surrounding heritage assets. Since Practical Completion in March, the top three floors have been let to established tech companies who see the building as a postitive contributer to their brand.
