Old Bailey topping out
23 November 2016
On behalf of Blackstone, BuckleyGrayYeoman’s scheme is substantially refurbishing the 28,721 sq m office building to bring it up to contemporary standards, rearranging the building cores and adding a two-storey extension that will increase the available floor space by 4,108 sq m. The existing eastern elevation will be completely replaced by a contemporary façade that will greatly improve the building’s presentation onto Old Bailey. The new design features a natural stone frontage with bronze coloured window reveals to match the existing materials used in the retained parts of the building.
20 Old Bailey was constructed in the late 1980s in post-modern style and is located directly opposite the Old Bailey, England’s Central Criminal Court, close to St Paul’s Cathedral and adjacent to the Newgate Conservation area. The current building is seven storeys plus roof level plant above ground and three below. The work is due to complete in March 2017.
