21 Soho Square

Mediating between the historic context of Soho Square and the new Crossrail development at Tottenham Court Road, 21 Soho Square is very much seen as a gateway into Soho. A sympathetic refurbishment and extension to a Grade II listed Regency townhouse and former warehouse, the development delivers 27,000 sqft of characterful working space. Originally Cross and Blackwell’s headquarters building, the site presented a rare combination of formal offices and industrial floorplates. The architectural narrative of the two buildings however had been lost through external alterations and poor internal refurbishments undertaken in the 1980′s. The design sought to achieve distinctive expressions for both buildings within a coherent overall redevelopment. This involved increasing the warehouse mass with additional floors whilst sympathetically restoring heritage features within the townhouse.
